Marcella “Marcy” Schell is a Partner at BBC Law and focuses her practice on catastrophic damages mitigation and litigation. Marcy brings a unique perspective to this practice having spent the last 19 years as in-house counsel responsible for the oversight and management of medical malpractice claims and litigation for a major health system in the Philadelphia area. With Philadelphia topping the 2019 list as the most Plaintiff-friendly jurisdiction in the nation, Marcy has been front and center fighting the good fight. Her aggressive approach to monitoring cases in litigation and working with outside counsel to ensure the health system and its employees were being provided the best defense possible from a strategic standpoint led to the successful resolution of hundreds of cases for the health system. Marcy was actively involved in developing the defense in catastrophic injury cases from both the liability as well as damages perspective as well as the investigation and resolution of claims pre-litigation. As in-house counsel, she has represented health care providers in State Board Investigations and counseled clients on various litigation and health care issues including risk management, patient consent, advance directives, guardianship, end of life issues, privacy, and compliance with the laws and regulations governing the health care industry.
Prior to working in house, she aggressively and successfully represented health care professionals, hospitals, pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers in all aspects of litigation from pleadings through trial. Marcy is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania & New Jersey (inactive).
Marcy lives in Malvern with her husband and has three kids who are spread out across the county. Despite no longer having any children at Great Valley High School, she remains an active member of the board of the Great Valley Crew Club which brought rowing to GV High School in 2015.
