A seasoned litigator in over 35 jury trials and hundreds of bench trials, Douglas A. Rhoads has a proven track record of defending clients against general liability claims, with specific focus on premises and product liability, construction defect, and dram shop law. Douglas’ liability practice also includes the defense of bad faith matters. As a former prosecutor, Douglas leverages his experience to defend white collar criminal matters and to support clients undergoing internal investigations.
Douglas’ results include the successful defense of a restaurant owner accused of negligent sidewalk maintenance, where all claims were dismissed, as well as a favorable settlement for a wrongful claim of permanent disability against a commercial landlord. On behalf of a construction sub-contractor, he achieved a defense verdict against a pedestrian claiming injury as a result of a faulty roof.
Douglas is regularly called upon to defend business executives, university personnel, and healthcare and pharmaceutical professionals, counseling clients through white collar and government investigations. He also consults universities on internal investigations related to Title IX.
During his time as a prosecutor, Douglas handled issues ranging from complex fraud investigations to violent crime, and was part of an elite unit that specialized in high-profile prosecutions and long-term grand jury investigations in the areas of white collar fraud, public corruption, election fraud, and police misconduct. In 2016, Douglas was honored by the Department of Justice for his distinguished service in this role.
When not advising his clients, Douglas likes to spend his time cycling or skiing, and taking trips to the Jersey shore with his wife and two kids.
